Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH) continues its ongoing partnership with Torchbox with the launch of a new intranet.
Torchbox, leading digital agency for the not-for-profit/third sectors and founders of Wagtail CMS, today announced the launch of CUH’s new intranet.
Toni Brand, CUH’s Head of Internal Communications says: “Our intranet was not fit for purpose – search functionality was poor, it didn’t meet accessibility standards and wasn’t mobile compatible. During the pandemic we had to create a microsite to help staff access content remotely, which then meant we were running two separate intranets.
The new system had to become the single source of truth for our 12,000 staff, to help them to do their life changing work more easily. We’ve created an intranet that is easy to access from any device, easy to navigate and search and most importantly meets the needs of our users because it was developed and designed with them in mind.”
The first iteration of the intranet is now available for all staff.
Ben Heasman, Product Director at Torchbox says: “The new intranet will help editors to keep content relevant for the wider CUH team and aims to become a platform that connects employees with the people and information they need to do their life-saving work better. By using Wagtail as the CMS, we’ve been able to align the Intranet with the main cuh.nhs.uk website and have benefited from pre-existing, accessible frontend templates.”
Built in permissions and workflows will help to ensure content on the intranet doesn’t go stale – but remains an accurate source of information for employees across the Trust.
Ben Heasman, Product Director, Torchbox, adds: “Once again, the team at CUH have been a pleasure to work with over the past 6 months. We’re delighted to continue our strong partnership – this time focussing on building a user-centred platform that will provide life-saving support to employees right across the Trust.”
The Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust intranet is powered by Wagtail, the open-source CMS used by the NHS for NHS.uk (which received 1bn page views in 2021), Google, NASA, and many nonprofits in the UK and internationally.
