Highlight has opened its Monitoring & Service Observability Platform to deliver affordable, entry level of monitoring across a wider range of technologies and organisations. It can now monitor the status of virtually any network device with one-minute polling, making comprehensive monitoring of even the largest networks commercially viable.
The new standalone ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol) monitoring service requires only an IP address to begin monitoring, making it ideal for devices and network environments where API (Application Programming Interface) or SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) access, credentials or detailed device information are unavailable.
The service gives providers greater flexibility and the ability to choose between SNMP and ICMP monitoring depending on customer requirements and network constraints.
Highlight is now able to monitor any IP-connected asset, from traditional network equipment to connected devices such as coffee machines, refrigeration units or other operational technology, simply determining whether they are reachable and performing as expected. Users can upload large numbers of devices through a simple CSV file and begin monitoring immediately.
The ICMP service polls devices every minute, providing rapid visibility of availability and performance. Highlight records devices as down if they fail to respond within one second, while slower responses are identified as health issues, enabling users spot if problems are developing before an outage occurs.
Although designed as an entry-level monitoring service, the offering includes many of Highlight’s established service observability capabilities, including configurable alerting, long-term data retention, reporting and multi-tenancy.
Martin Saunders, CEO of Highlight says, “All you need is an IP address, making it possible to monitor almost any device with Highlight. At one-minute polling periods, if it becomes unreachable, users immediately know that further investigation is needed.“This is a practical way for service providers to deploy monitoring quickly and cost-effectively. It makes Highlight competitive with basic monitoring tools while providing a pathway to the broader MSP-focused service observability capabilities available across the platform.”
The standalone ICMP monitoring service is available immediately.
